RESOLUTION: YOUNG MEMBERS IN IFUW

It’s with pleasure that we can inform you that the resolution from the Netherlands Association and supported by the New Zealand Association, to enhance the position of young members within the IFUW structure, has passed during the IFUW Conference in Perth ! This means you now have an instrument (this resolution) to ask (or demand) your National Board to organise e.g. more activities for Young Members within your own NFA/Country !!

The Board of Officers of IFUW appointed her member Birten Gökyay from Turkey as the member in charge of Young Members. We already met her in Perth and she is looking forward to working with the Young Members.

Please find below the text of the resolution, the supporting statement and the plan of action. We hope it will help you to have a better position for young members in your own country.

All the best,

RESOLUTION: YOUNG MEMBERS IN IFUW

Proposed by the Netherlands Association of Women Graduates

The 28th Conference resolves that:

1.The Board of Officers shall appoint an existing Board Member to represent the Young Members to provide structured and continued support for this indispensable group of members;

2. A permanent structure be established, such as a New Generation (NG) project group, which will be responsible for the newsletter, e-mail list, advocacy for Young Members and the promotion of special projects;

3. The Board of Officers promote opportunities and training for Young Members to gain managerial knowledge and experience of IFUW;

4. The IFUW Headquarters continue to source and share relevant information for the Young Members e-mail list;

5. The Board of Officers continue to arrange a programme of events for Young Members during the IFUW Conference; and,

6. NFA’s be urged to take similar, appropiate steps within their own countries for their Young Members: e.g. promote opportunities and training for Young Members, to source and share relevant information and arrange a programme of events for Young Members.

Supporting statement:

This resolution is proposed because we believe that Young Members in NFAs are needed for the continuance of NFAs and IFUW. Currently Young Members groups are formed tot initiate their own activities and exist for a few years and for whatever reason move on. Much of the gains and ideas made by these members are then lost. Therefor, when the next group forms the same processes have to be repeated all over again.

By investing in the Young Members of your NFA, you will be investing in the future of your NFA and IFUW.

With reference tot point 1, we would like to stress that ther responsibility for the Young Members will be given to an existing Board Member, therefor there will be no additional costs.

Plan of Action:

1.The Board of Officers appoint one of the existing Board Members to represent the Young Members.

2. At the end of the 28th conference a project group, called New Generation, will be established consisting of young dedicated members. They will work together with the appointed Board Member during the triennium and conferences.

3. The NG project group will develop a plan of action in consultation with the Board Member for submission to the Board for final approval before July 2005.

4. NFAs are encouraged to also appoint a Young Member representative within their decsion making body.
