Death By Chocolate Review
The menu is set, but the chef is dead. And one of the courses of the dinner is a clue...the chef's famous, but secret, dessert. Is it possible someone at the hotel wanted to know the secret recipe of that dessert? Is it possible that the cause of the chef's demise is "Death by Chocolate." Or was the overbearing chef done in because of his other dalliances.
The Hotel Saranac will be the site of the third annual Saranac Lake Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre on February 3, 7 and 9, 2001; cocktails at 5:30 p.m., with each performance at 6:01 p.m.
Walt Parker, world famous chef and regional lover, was found dead in his crashed airplane. At first, pilot error was suspected, but then it was discovered someone put popcorn in his gas tank. The irony of ironies when the king of fine dining is done in by a theatre snack.
All the suspect, oddly enough, are involved with or staying the resort: the spanish chambermaid was none too happy with the treatment she received from Parker; the resorts golf pro owed some gambling debts; the hotel manager and group sales manager wanted the chef gone long ago and murder would be the easiest way out of his contract; of course the janitor, who had cleaned up one too many strawberry tart, had his reasons; and even the visiting doctor (and her lady friend) had a few business dealings with the victim.
The Hotel Saranac is serving up a perennial favorite of murder mystery and buffet of delicious food. The dinner includes: Green Garden Salad with Ranch and Italian Dressing, Lemon Broiled Haddock, Pasta Primavera, Confetti Rice, Fresh Vegetable Melange, Fresh Rolls from the Hotel's Bakery, Coffee, Tea, Decaf or Soda and Sinful Chocolate Mousse with Double Chocolate Cookie Garnish.
The characters of "Death by Chocolate" will be played by an all-star cast from Community Theatre Players. The play will be written by Saranac Lake playwright Gem*Boy and the historic Hotel Saranac
of Paul Smiths College-Three Diamonds/AAA/AARP will provide a unique backdrop to the production.
"Death by Chocolate" is the production and murder is the game. The year 2001 show features the addition of a third performance, with each show comes a different and unique ending. The third show was added for 2001 because of last year's sellouts. Reservations are encouraged.
Ticket prices are $25 in advance and $30 day of the show. The Hotel Saranac also has special room packages for the production.
