Mrs. Gaylord teaches in our High School.

Some of her favorite books:

  • In Love and War: The Story of a Family's Ordeal and Sacrafice During the Vietnam Years
    by Jim Stockdale, Sybil Stockdale
This book should be mandatory reading for history classes studying the VietNam period. Admiral Stockdale relates his experiences as a Naval Aviator who was shot down, captured and tortured as a POW in VietNam. His wife, Sybil, relates in every other chapter what was going on in her life, and her involvement with her husband as a POW. This book conveys the honor, courage and commitment one family had to each other as well as their country during a very trying time.
  • The Story of a Young Teacher in the Alaska Wilderness
    by Robert Specht
Anne's courage to stand for what she believes to be right in the face of opposition is a lesson that carries through almost 80 years later. Alaska, seen through her eyes, is a place of incredible beauty and harsh reality. The characters are very "real." Anne's will power, strength of heart, and sheer determination to do what she believes is right, make her a formidable force. Alaska is shown to be the Land of the Midnight Sun, Yellow Gold, and Determined mosquitoes. This story depicts the struggle brought about by prejudice & is clearly relevant today.
