When the Clinton House opened for business in 1830, people said it was the area's most elegant hotel. It had over 150 rooms and its cupola was 90 feet above street level. Historic Ithaca bought it in 1972 and now it is used primarily for offices. The Robin's Nest Nursery School had the chance to see the building during January, 1998. This wasn't a class field trip; it was a project done with parents. The ones who went had the following comments:

"It sure is big!"
"It has lots of windows."
"There's a mural and I can see myself in it."
" There are chairs and a couch in the big room (lobby)"
"I saw pictures on the wall about what it looked like a long time ago"
"I saw lots of windows and some dinosaurs!"
