North Kingstown, Rhode Island written by a group of students from Davisville Middle School |
The red gambrel roof home, built in 1751 with its fish pond and
snuff mill on Gilbert Stuart Road is one of the most charming places to
visit when you come to North Kingstown, Rhode Island.
In case you didn't know, Gilbert Stuart was the foremost painter of
portraits of George Washington. His most famous portrait is on the one
dollar bill. He also painted many other portraits, but the one of George
Washington is his most famous.
To my surprise, his house wasn't exactly the kind of house that you
would think a famous person would live in. It is a plain and simple house
much like others built in the 1750's.Going to Gilbert Stuart's birthplace
has taught me that famous people can come from humble surroundings.
