Stop by, we're
downtown! Early American women artists came to their careers not by choice but by necessity. Widowed or maiden ladies would use their creative skills not only in the home arts but as portrait painters. These itinerant female painters would travel from farm to farm working, on commission, to produce visual images of land, home, and hearth. | |
