Netiquet:
Mandatory Reading
Netiquet is nothing more than etiquette on the
network. It is easy to forget when looking at words on a computer
screen that there is a real person behind those words. There are some
rules of netiquet that are required to be followed during your
participation in this course, including the following:
- Remember that when communicating via email, you
do not have the benefit of voice intonation, facial expressions,
body language or gestures to interpret the meaning behind the
words. The same words spoken orally in different manners can mean
different things. Remember this, and give the person the benefit
of the doubt when interpretting messages.
- Remember that the people on the net are real
people and it is easy to offend. Observe the same type of
etiquette that you would if you were face to face in the classroom
with the person.
- Respect the time and disk space of others. Be
concise in your messages. Some students have a limited amount of
disk space available to them, be sure that you think about what
you are going to say and make it relevent to the topic being
discussed.
- Share knowledge. You may come across resources
that may be helpful to others.
- No flaming (insults, etc.). Some of the
thesis areas may be controversial. We encourage and welcome debate
based on factual knowledge. We do not encourage nor will we
tolerate arguments or insults as part of the discussion.
- WARNING!!!!!
This is a monitored discussion. Should your message
not be appropriate it may be returned to you for rewording. This
could delay your message from reaching the discussion and could
jeopardize your points for that discussion. Think before you
speak. We reserve the right to remove any student from the class
who refuses to conduct himself or herself in a proper and
reasonable manner.
