Corporate Project
The corporate project is an important part of this class. This project replaces all exams that you would normally be given and counts as a large part of your grade (18 points).
You will be making a pretend investment in the corporation and following that investment during the entire semester, to see if you lose or gain from the investment. You are to record the stock prices for your company which are published each Monday during the semester.
Very few investors actually realize how their money is used by the corporations in which they invest. This money allows the corporation to operate and produce, but sometimes funds not so beneficial outcomes, such as environmental damage, employee abuse, and health hazzards.
You are to research and follow the corporation for the entire semester. It would be advisable to research the company's history as well. Information can be found in newspapers, trade journals, business databases, and online through the www. A good starting place online is the:Multinational Monitor Resource listing at http://essential.org/monitor/monitor_resources.html where you will find information on your corporations, as well as numerous links to other resources.
The corporate project will not be discussed online during our scheduled discussion period as that is for discussion of the thesis area, however, you may discuss it with individually with other class members.
A paper will be written discussing your findings and is due no later than 5/12/97. This is an important part of your grade... do not be late.
Questions about the project should be direct to Gloria Bobbie:
