Discussion
A critical part of this course is the discussion of the issues. Please bear in mind that discussion is not to be opinion nor is it a matter of "I think." Discussion is learned discourse based on factual information obtained through reading and researching your topic. Discussion is a mandatory part of this course and your grade will depend a great deal on your participation and contribution to the discussion being held on each thesis. This is further discussed in the thesis area section.
Papers
There will be one paper due at the end of each thesis area, which will discuss the research you have done on the topic and any conclusions which you have drawn. Guidelines for papers are located in the thesis area section.
Corporate Project
A semester-long project will be conducted and will take the place of the final exam. An explanation of this project will be found under the corporate project section.
Readings
In each thesis area, you will find a list of recommended readings which may or may not be available at your library. These are not mandatory, but are suggested books which may help you to understand the thesis that is being discussed.
You will also find a list of readings, which are mandatory and must be read and incorporated in the discussion as they reflect on your country. From time to time, short readings may be sent to your email account and should be considered mandatory reading.
Lectures
Lectures in the traditional form will not occur. Replacing lectures, will be a thesis statement with substantiation to justify it. It will be your job to either challenge or defend the thesis statement as it applies to the country which will be assigned to you. There is no right or wrong and grading will not be done based on which side of the issue you stand. The issues which we are exploring have been debated by some of the finest scholars in the world and even they cannot reach agreement as to a right or wrong side.
Country Assignments
All discussion and papers will be based on a country which you will research. Each student will be assigned a country. When you are working with a specific thesis, you will discuss it and approach it in the context in which it affects your country. We hope that in doing so you will see the effects of political policy, etc. and how what one country does almost always has an effect on another country. We will see similarities and differences. Solutions that work well for one country may have a devastating affect on another country. We will be comparing and researching several types of countries. To find which country to which you have been assigned, refer to the country assignment section.
Corporate Assignments
For the corporate assignment project, you will be assigned a corporation. Refer to the corporate assignment section for your assigned corporation and guidelines for the project.
