2009 AAUW Research Award Goes to Grad Student Rebecca Jewell

The AAUW-St. Lawrence County Branch presented its fourth annual AAUW Research Award to SUNY Potsdam Graduate student Rebecca Jewell at the branch's annual fall membership meeting on Sept. 22, 2009 in Canton. The local AAUW Research Award is given annually to a woman in St. Lawrence County who contributes significantly to academic research. Jewell is currently completing a SUNY Potsdam's Masters of Arts degree in English and Communication, which is an interdisciplinary program comprised of literature, composition, and communication. Her scholarly research paper, "Suffrage in St. Lawrence County: As Reported in the Local Newspapers," won the second annual second Researching the North Country Writing Competition in May sponsored by the NNY Library Network. Her winning essay can be read online.
