The Adirondack Teen Adventure program is designed to introduce teens to lifelong skills and attitudes about the outdoors. We concentrate on building individual skill levels, self-confidence and self-reliance. Within the group we stress teamwork, group decision making, communication skills and leadership. Highlights of the program are listed and briefly described in the next section. Each major component is led by a qualified instructor who specializes in that particular field.
During the first three days of each week, the campers will go home at night. The next three nights will be away from the area, and the participants will be camping.
The camp is limited to about ten teenagers. The group will be split into smaller groups, depending on skill level. Everyone will get sufficient individual attention. We constantly stress safety, fun and learning.
Six days of concentrated kayak instruction and fun! We begin on flat water and progress to easy whitewater. We will cover the basic paddling and steering strokes, wet exits, eddy turns, peel-outs, ferrying, Eskimo rolls and river reading techniques. We will teach and practice river safety.
Intensive climbing instruction during the week will include knots, equipment, climbing and rappelling techniques, bouldering, artificial wall climbing, belay techniques and site management. We will visit several climbing sites around the Adirondacks. We always teach and practice safety first!
Wear on Earth supplies all the group gear needed. We supply top-quality camping gear, kayaking gear, and rock climbing equipment. We encourage you to use your own equipment if it is of good quality and you are used to it. We can also lend or sell you most personal gear you will need.
