
The Adirondack Teen Adventure program is designed to introduce teensto lifelong skills and attitudes about the outdoors. We concentrate onbuilding individual skill levels, self-confidence and self-reliance.Within the group we stress teamwork, group decision making, communicationskills and leadership. Highlights of the program are listed and brieflydescribed in the next section. Each major component is led by a qualifiedinstructor who specializes in that particular field.
During the first three days of each week, the campers will go home atnight. The next three nights will be away from the area, and theparticipants will be camping.
The camp is limited to about ten teenagers. The group will be splitinto smaller groups, depending on skill level. Everyone will getsufficient individual attention. We constantly stress safety, fun andlearning.
Six days of concentrated kayak instruction and fun! We begin on flatwater and progress to easy whitewater. We will cover the basic paddlingand steering strokes, wet exits, eddy turns, peel-outs, ferrying, Eskimorolls and river reading techniques. We will teach and practice riversafety.
Intensive climbing instruction during the week will include knots,equipment, climbing and rappelling techniques, bouldering, artificial wallclimbing, belay techniques and site management. We will visit severalclimbing sites around the Adirondacks. We always teach and practice safetyfirst!
Wear on Earth supplies all the group gear needed. We supplytop-quality camping gear, kayaking gear, and rock climbing equipment. Weencourage you to use your own equipment if it is of good quality and youare used to it. We can also lend or sell you most personal gear you willneed. You will be responsible for your own footwear, clothing, rainwear,and toiletries. You will receive a detailed clothing and equipment listprior to your adventure.
The cost of each session is $400. If you sign up for both sessions,the cost is $750.

Teenagers will have a chance to practice the skills they have learned on some of the well-known rivers of the east, The Sacandaga, Hudson, Ottawa and Rouge rivers. We will kayak every day and camp-out every night. We will review and stress river safety.

To participate in the advanced kayaking session it is necessary to have at least one week of white water kayaking instruction, and be capable of performing a white water roll.
